Description

24ft Yurt

Expertly Crafted Yurts, Built To Last

With over 25 years of hands-on experience, Hearthworks combines expert craftsmanship and high-quality materials to create robust, visually stunning, and long-lasting yurts. Handbuilt at our workshops near Glastonbury, Somerset, each yurt is designed to offer exceptional durability, comfort, and elegance, whether used as a spacious living area, an elegant garden retreat, or a luxurious glamping space.

Hearthworks have crafted and hired out hundreds of yurts over the years, we’re uniquely positioned to understand how they perform in real-world conditions. This ongoing, in-house experience allows us to continuously refine our designs through practical use, expert insight, and customer feedback, ensuring every yurt we make meets the highest standards of function and beauty.

Wooden Frame Construction

  • Material: We source sustainable kiln-dried Ash for our yurt frames. Ash has great performance qualities, primarily its strength and resistance to warping. All wooden elements are coated with an exterior-grade finish for durability and weather resistance.
  • Wall Trellis: Handcrafted and meticulously tied with pre-stretched polyester cord, ensuring the trellis has both strength and flexibility.
  • Roof Poles: A straight design for enhanced stability and ease of installation.
  • Tension Band: Roof poles are secured to a precisely engineered stainless steel cable, offering enhanced structural integrity and increased load-bearing capacity.
  • Crown: Constructed from laminated Birch plywood, braced with coppiced hazel for a rustic yet sturdy design.
  • Doorway: Solid wooden door frame, housing a lockable wooden door. Painted in the colour of your choice.

Durable Polycotton Canvas Cover

  • Material: Cotton and Polyester blended 12oz canvas, woven to give a high strength to low weight ratio. The cotton content ensures breathability whilst the polyester content gives the canvas strength. Naturally waterproof and Treated to British Standards for Fire resistance and Mould.
  • Roof Cover: Featuring a reinforced double valance with drawcord for a secure fit, and a rain diverter above the doorway.
  • Wall Sections: Canvas wall with turn buttons around the door frame and a PVC strip at the bottom for ground contact.
  • Dome Window: Each dome features a fully watertight clear PVC window with a canvas collar. Choose between two fitting options: star points for a removable setup, or a fixed collar for a more permanent installation.
  • Yurt Anchor Points: Webbing loops are provided at key anchor points on the roof, wall and star collar. Pre-stretched polyester cord is complemented with a set of hand cut Ash wood pegs to provide a reliable ground anchoring. Webbing and cord is available in either black or white.

Extra options

To get the best from your Hearthworks Yurt, we recommend you add the following extras;

Insulation:

  • UK manufactured recycled 100% felted wool sewn onto a natural off-white colour polycotton canvas.
  • Adding an insulation layer will extend the usable season of your yurt, and compliment a woodburner, helping to maintain a warm comfortable enviroment.
  • For more details take a look at the Heating and Insulation page HERE.

Doors:

  • All our yurts come with a single lockable solid wooden door as standard.
  • We offer different door upgrade options, to tailor the space to your needs. These include adding full height glazing to your main door, allowing more light into the interior and views accross the landscape, or a double door entrance for wider width, offering easier access for wheelchair users and high footfall situations.
  • We can also add additional doors to the trellis frame. This could be to provide quick access to amenities when located behind the yurt, or as an additional entrance or exit in larger yurts.
  • Door upgrades and additions can be added in any conbination, and locations decided after the order is placed.

Windows:

  • All of our Yurts come with a transparent PVC window over the crown wheel, so you always have a skylight.
  • To allow more light into the yurt, we can add clear PVC windows that are sewn into the wall. Our Yurt windows are rectangular in shape and come complete with a roll down canvas curtain on the exterior of the Yurt, utilising velcro fastenings and ties.
  • Hearthworks now offer full height glazed window panels. This is a premium option, and when used in multiples or alongside a glazed door, can really enhance the space and connect the user with the surrounding landscape. The window frames are handcrafted at our workshops using the same ash wood as the door frames. The glass we use is double glazed safety glass, providing high thermal properties, increased security, and impact resistance.

Woodburners:

  • Hearthworks recommend adding a woodburner to your yurt, whether it’s for year round use, because you have an insulation liner, or just the wow factor for guests. The heat it provides will reduce moisture and condensation in the interior, helping extend the life of the canvas, and also adding comfort when its cold outside. Our Heating and Insulation page has more details.
  • We use a silicone flue sleeve and stainless steel fixing plate where the woodburneing stove flue, penetrates the yurt roof. This is reinforced with additional canvas padding, ensuring integrity, durability and most importantly, fire safety. The flue plate comes with a removable canvas cover, preventing any water ingress while a stove isn’t installed.
  • If you plan to have a woodburner, now or in the future, add the flue plate option in Step 7, above.
  • To purchase a woodburning stove and insulated flue pipe, or for help finding recommended suppliers, please Contact Us.

Flooring:

  • Your flooring requirements will depend on the substrate used on your yurt location.
  • We can manufacture yurts for easy moving and installation on hard-standing or grass, and we also manufacture more permenant yurts, that we’d recommend installing on a wooden platform.
  • For movable or temporary use yurts that will be installed at groundlevel, we recommend adding a heavy duty groundsheet to your order. Made from durable and waterproof welded PVC, and featuring a bespoke upstand thats tailored to your chosen door and window options. The yurt wall is finished at groundlevel with a corresponding colour PVC strip, this stops the canvas coming into contact with a wet floor, keeping water out and extending the canvas life.
  • For more permanent structures, and those with glazed elements, we recommend building a solid base for your yurt, we will provide the required measurements and specifications after your order is placed. The wall for this type of yurt is finished with a PVC drawsting strip, this causes the wall to hug the base, stopping water ingress and minimising air flow.
  • Coir matting can be used as an additional flooring layer. Coir is naturally flame retardent and provides a durable surface. These can be purchased separately by requesting a quote.

Bespoke Extras

Yurt Awning:

It is possible to add on an awning for over your door. This can be in the colour of your choice, and can also be added to your Yurt later. The awning makes it much more pleasant when coming or going in the rain, and adds an extra layer of weather protection to the Yurt over the door, which is the most likely area for water ingress issues to develop. Bear in mind, though, if you are in a very windy location, an awning may not be a good option for you. Similarly, it is best to take an awning down (or to remove the poles and secure it against the body of the Yurt) if you will be leaving your Yurt unattended for a length of time or if you are expecting a storm. Quote on request.

Podding Yurts Together:

Over the years we have built many yurt complexes, where either numerous smaller yurts lead off a main large yurt, or two yurts are joined together to create separate rooms. The possibilities are endless! Get in touch if this is an option you’d like further information on.

Bespoke Replacement Covers or Parts:

Whether you own a Hearthworks yurt or a different brand, our manufacturing team can create a complete new cover, or custom replacement parts tailored to your specific design and requirements.

Maintenance:

Hearthworks can offer a maintenance service, identifying and restoring signs of aging woodwork, re-treating and protecting the canvas covers, and tighening or replacing guide cords and structure anchor points.
