Description

12ft Standard Ash Yurt

Classic 12 ft diameter Yurt from durable Ash hardwood with a cover from 12 oz polycotton canvas. Hearthworks Yurts are handcrafted, beautiful structures designed to last. The canvas is generally a natural cotton colour (white, olive or sand) and we can also offer a coloured panel trim in a variety of colours available, on request.

A standard Hearthworks Yurt consists of:

  • Handcrafted Yurt frame tied with pre-stretched polyester cord.
  • Yurt comes with one entrance way and a canvas door as standard.
  • Double thickness canvas door with wooden lathes, velcro and ties (unless a solid wood door is chosen).
  • All of our standard Yurts come with a removable transparent PVC window over the crown wheel, so you always have a skylight.
  • Star-shaped roof wheel cover from double thickness canvas.
  • Fitted canvas roof cover with reinforced double valance around the edge in between which the walls attach. The outer valance also has a draw cord at the bottom to keep it tight against the wall.
  • Peg loops from polyester webbing with pre-stretched polyester cord and Ash wood pegs. (Upgrade to metal stakes is also available.)
  • Wall sections from canvas with spot fasteners on the door, and a PVC strip around the bottom section that sits on the ground.

Yurt details

  • Canvas used is durable 12oz natural colour Canvas, with Fire, Water & Rot Retardant to British Standards.
  • Sustainably sourced kiln dried and durable Ash frame.
  • The wood is coated with protective Protek Royal exterior finish to prolong its life.
  • Roof poles of the Standard Yurts are not steam-bent and are not lashed onto the trellis – rather they are fixed onto the webbing tension band.
  • Extra strength tension bands and numerous areas of double reinforced canvas eliminating stress points.
  • The straight roof pole design means that the roof poles are less likely to twist, making the Yurt generally more stable.
  • We use high quality Birch plywood to manufacture the roof-wheel for the Standard Yurts, which is very strong and light in weight. With its coppiced hazel bracing it gives these Yurts a rustic touch.
  • Our yurts are handcrafted in the UK.

Extra options

Bespoke Options

We have a range of extra options to suit your requirements including solid wood locking doors and windows in the side wall. Standard Yurts are available with the option of insulated felt inner covers, wood burning stoves and platform floors.

Our Standard yurt can include the following options:

  • a lockable wooden door
  • an extra wide wooden lockable door
  • extra doorways
  • a woodburning stove
  • pvc windows in the wall
  • insulated felt-lined inner cover
  • a platform floor for it to stand on
  • a porch awning for over the door
  • wheelchair access, including a ramp

Windows

All of our Yurts come with a removable transparent PVC window over the crown wheel, so you always have a skylight. It is also possible to add clear PVC windows that are sewn into the wall. Our Yurt windows are rectangular in shape and come complete with a roll down canvas curtain on the exterior of the Yurt, velcro fastenings and ties.

Multiple Doorways and Extra-wide doors

All our Yurts come with one entrance way and a canvas door as standard. For additional cost, you can change to wider width doorways (for example, to accommodate wheelchair access) or add additional doorways, or change a canvas door for a lockable wooden one.

Solid Wooden Doors

Our wooden Doors are made from solid wood and are lockable. Either split vertically down the middle or in one piece, each door is handcrafted to order. Doors can also be either standard width or extra wide wheelchair width.

Hearthworks Standard Gers have the straight roof poles characterised by the Mongolian Gers. We originally developed our straight roof Ash Yurts for our own hire range, seeing the need for a robust wooden framed Yurt that was easily and quickly erected, and able to be easily standardised.

It is possible to add on an awning for over your door. This can be in the colour of your choice, and can also be added to your Yurt later. The awning makes it much more pleasant when coming or going in the rain, and adds an extra layer of weather protection to the Yurt over the door, which is the most likely area for water ingress issues to develop. Bear in mind, though, if you are in a very windy location, an awning may not be a good option for you. Similarly, it is best to take an awning down (or to remove the poles and secure it against the body of the Yurt) if you will be leaving your Yurt unattended for a length of time or if you are expecting a storm.

Flooring

All structures can be equipped with heavy duty PVC groundsheets. We also offer Coir matting (coconut fibre) as a natural and inexpensive flooring finish. Coir Matting is hard wearing, naturally fire resistant and biodegradable product, made to measure for the space. We can also offer wooded flooring, bespoke design flooring solutions are available on request. Please see our flooring section for more details. https://hearthworks.co.uk/flooring/
